For families

Finding the right place for someone you love is a big decision. There’s no form to fill in first and no commitment in asking — a conversation is a good place to start.

How to begin

Get in touch and tell us who you’re asking for, what they enjoy, and anything you’d like us to understand about how they like to be supported.

We’ll talk through which programs might suit and what the next step looks like from there.

Questions worth asking

These are prompts you're welcome to bring to us -- not a checklist, and not answers we've given in advance.

  • Who is eligible to take part, and what does joining involve?
  • What does a typical session look like day to day?
  • How do you get to know what someone is interested in?
  • What support is available for specific access or care needs?
  • Can we visit and see a program before deciding?
  • How do you keep families informed about how things are going?

Resources

We’re putting together a short list of local and state resources families have found useful. Until it’s been checked over, we’d rather point you to the right place ourselves — please ask us what you’re looking for.

Common questions

Do you work with adults, or only young people?
DLC's focus is lifelong learning for people with developmental disabilities. The best way to find out whether a program suits a particular person is to talk it through with us directly.
Can we look around before committing to anything?
Please ask. Visiting is the clearest way to see whether a program feels right, and there is no obligation attached to a conversation.
How do we start a conversation?
Get in touch through the Contact page and tell us a little about the person you're asking for and what they enjoy. That is enough to begin.

Let's talk it through.
